When the day began, Alyssa had some nerves. And being the calm voice of reason that I am, I gave her my advice.
"You're the only person who will notice if a detail is out of place today. So if nothing else goes right, but at the end of the day you and Vince are married, this day will be perfect."
The day was going great - we were on time, everyone was gorgeous, formals were completed and we even had a few minutes of down time before the ceremony was to start.
But that's when things got interesting. Sprinkles began to threaten their outdoor ceremony. The guests had already been seated. So rather than interrupt the day to move everyone inside, they forged ahead.
Sprinkles quickly became a steady rain, and the steady rain quickly became a downpour. And not just any downpour, but a torrential-take cover-not even an umbrella could help kind of downpour.
Everything was ruined...or so you'd think. What we witnessed next left left me speechless.
Through the soaking rain Alyssa and Vince smiled and laughed. They became the very epitome of grace under pressure. They didn't give up, there was no anger or frustration. (If there was, I definitely did not see it!) They took what their wedding day gave them, embraced it and got married just like they were supposed to.
Their first kiss was beyond epic, the cheers of love and support from the guests were loud and happy...as they ran toward the reception. :)
After a new makeup application and some hair dryer action, the rest of the day went just as it was supposed to. Yes, everyone was a little soggy for a bit, but no one seemed upset. Alyssa and Vince were surrounded by such uplifting support. There was no way they were going to let this get them down.
They now have the wedding story of the century to tell their kids, and their grandkids. One that I'm so incredibly proud to be a part of, and to be able to give back to them.
Hey - I guess if you think about it, my advice was still on point. Because at the end of the day, Vince and Alyssa were husband and wife. So really, it was perfect.
PS - Alyssa, we WILL get you that sunny day portrait eventually... promise. ;)
