Home Based Family Portraits in Fairport, NY

The youngest just turned one, not that you need an excuse to celebrate your family! These guys invited me over, and we played inside while it snowed like crazy outside. Each of the kids showed me their favorite toy, they read me a book and played a little piano too.

I may not have kids of my own, but I sure feel blessed to be able to spend so much time with them anyway. Kids have this ability to take the mundane and make it magic. I hope they, and all of us adults too, hold on to that forever.

Say hello to some of my Fairport neighbors! Thanks for inviting us into your lives. We really do love it!

The Playhouse, Swillburger Rochester NY Engagement Session: Helen and Tim

Their perfect evening is a good beer and sitting home together playing video games. Everyone has their thing together, and for these two it’s gaming. Naturally, the first idea that came to mind for their engagement session was heading downtown in Rochester for an engagement session at The Playhouse. Conveniently, this was also where they had their first date.

It was super perfect - from skee ball to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They laughed and played and fake pouted when the other person beat them in a game. Along the way, we photographed who they really are as a couple.

After a drink and some games, we headed outside to Highland Park for a quick outdoor portion to their session. It was cold, but the light was perfect and they kept each other warm. We’re loving these Rochester winter engagement sessions lately. It seems to be making a come back, and we’re all for it!

Enjoy!

2018 Family Portrait Membership Recap

From sledding to the beach, looking for Easter eggs to apples, or just generally playing and enjoying life. We capture it all with our Family Portrait Membership program!

If you've ever found yourself wondering: “What the heck are they talking about with this membership program?” you are not alone. It’s pretty unique, as in, we invented it and as far as we know, it’s the only thing like it out there. (If you know someone else offering this, please let us know in the comments!)

This post is shows off the best part of the membership program – our (almost) monthly events. We planned 10 get togethers this year covering a variety of real life activities for you to do with your kids. Then we’re there to document them so you can be present and enjoy!

At the end of the year, each family receives a custom designed book with their photos from throughout the year, at the events as well as their personal family session. How’s that for something to go under your tree?

Thank you for everyone that came out this year, and to everyone who has supported this project. We love seeing you every month. While we are busy planning out 2019’s schedule, here is a look back at some favorite moments of 2018’s events!

Cheers!

Outdoor Winter Family Portraits in Fairport, NY

When I first met with Marissa, she told me “We’re from Chicago, we can handle the cold.” Oh how little did we know…

It was 32 degrees and sunny on this early November day. It was not what we were expecting! We literally had the boys running down the sidewalk to warm them up! They were troopers though, and we worked really fast to get all the images they wanted and get them back into the car and warmth!

If you ask me, it was worth it. Look at those colors and those faces! Have I mentioned lately how much I love my job? :D

Welcome to Rochester guys! Enjoy the Upstate New York winter,
Lori

Valentine's Day is For Everyone: Fairport NY Photographers

Valentine's Day. Whether your totally for it or tend to call it "amateur hour," it's a holiday that as photographers, we do not ignore. It doesn't come in one shape or size, but it does fit everyone.

We stand for love. And while yes, the traditional holiday is meant for romantic gestures between loves - it's also so much more. Romantic love isn't the only game in town.

Yes, love is a first kiss and a first dance.

But it's also a 60th wedding anniversary dance.

Love is cuddling your kids.

Love is cherishing time with grandparents.

Love is having everyone in the same place, because it's rare.

Love is sisters and brothers.

Love is an adorable pet.

Love is your girl squad.

Love is reminiscing over first dates together.

Love is holding hands through the hard stuff.

Love is enjoying the silly things.

Love, is whatever you want it to be. It's whatever moment means the most to you, with those you truly treasure.

Valentine's Day is for everyone, because love is everything.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Brandon & Lisa: Twin Silos Wedding Photography

When I asked them what made them unique as a couple they said "I guess just that we're the only ones who have each other." Ummm, yes...exactly. That's perfect.

There aren't many couples I know that can say they've known each other since 5th grade. Even with being together as long as they have, they're still the just the right amount of sweet together.

Their first look was just what they needed. We watched their pre-wedding jitters melt away the moment they laid eyes on each other. From that minute on, they were their sweet and silly selves again.

The ceremony, held in their home church was the right amount of humor and love. Portraits with them were fun, sweet and romantic. And the reception at Twin Silos Barn in Livonia felt right at home for their day. (Catered by one of our favorites, Partyman Catering). Everything was just perfect.

Oh and did I mention that golden hour and sunset?? I mean, wow - all day every day please!

Congratulations Lisa and Brandon - wishing you a fairytale of a lifetime together!

Steve and Joann: Wintergarden by Monroe's Wedding

Something I know for sure, we honestly work with only the most amazing brides and grooms. Steve and Joann fit that description to a "T". In fact, their bridal party and their entire family was so sweet and loving all day. We are so grateful to have been part of it all.

We met up with them at their venue, The Wintergarden in downtown Rochester as they were getting ready for the day. Even as things started to run late (as they often do at any wedding), they were gracious and kind and wonderful through their nerves.

But as soon as they saw each other during their first look, all those nerves and worries disappeared completely - replaced by joy and tears of happiness. Joann and Steve were so beautiful together. They took those moments and held them tight - and allowed themselves to enjoy every second of their day.

And man, the opportunities for photography nearby and within The Wintergarden are plentiful. Gardens, rooftops, and wall art are all within walking distance of the venue - so much variety and beauty everywhere.

The celebration was so elegant, but yet included so many personal touches - whether in song, or the readings based off their favorite TV shows, or the sweets table that included desserts created by a close friend of the family (who also happens to own her own bakery).

Joann and Steve, it's an honor to know you both. We only wish you lived closer, so we could see more of you! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share in your day and your story. Congratulations!

Membership Spotlight: Gail, Greg & Chloe

Our goal as a business is to document relationships to help you treasure them, and we are proud to being doing just that. We first started documenting Gail and Greg's story with their engagement session, then their wedding, and now with their first child. Now that they are a part of our membership program, we get to see them nearly every month.

Building relationships is important to us. I love when a family crosses the line from clients to friends, and that is what our membership program has become. A circle of friends who gather each month to get together and make memories.

This month, we are shining the spotlight on this wonderful little Fairport family.  We love watching baby Chloe learn and grow! Check out a bit of our photographic history together, and say hello to them at our next event!

Q & A with Gail and Greg

What has been your favorite event so far? Why?

Probably a tie between the halloween party and the pool party. It was so fun to do our first family halloween costume (Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, & Hedwig the owl)! And we love apple cider! But we also loved going swimming at the rec center for the first time!

What is your favorite perk of membership?

It is so great to have some good family photos without having to bother everyone to take a picture all the time- (and then usually have them try to take it again and again because it is blurry etc).

What is one of your favorite things to do as a family?

We like to go for walks around Fairport village and on the canal path. We also like playing video games (Chloe knows how to use an xbox controller - no joke), going to coffee shops, visiting Schutts Apple Mill, reading books, and going on mini road trips.

In what ways is your family unique?

We have, over the past few months, discovered a number of songs on Youtube that instantly make Chloe happy, no matter what she is upset about. We now have a "Make Chloe stop crying" playlist. It currently includes the theme song to the original Mickey Mouse club, "The Cat and the Moon" from the theatrical version of the Lord of the Rings, and the opening theme to the Big Bang Theory. We have no explanation for why this works, but it works.

Thanks guys, we love you!

Tears on the Altar: Pittsford NY Wedding Photography

At this point in my career, I've been witness to many, many weddings. Whether lavish with oodles of guests or small and intimate, each one is beautiful.

But this moment took beautiful to a whole new level for me.

I knew in advance when I arrived to the church for Angela and Joe's wedding that there would be no guests in attendance. I knew they wanted it to be just them, the Pastor and God as they said their vows.

But I wasn't prepared for the awe that would make me feel. As Angela walked down the aisle towards Joe, the power of the intimacy and quiet in the room overtook us all.

It was a truly beautiful moment. It was raw and real, and will stay with me for a very long time.

Without the nerves of being on the spot in front of a crowded church, they were able to allow themselves to really be in the moment with each other. They allowed themselves to shed tears of joy on the altar together.

And as I wiped my own tears away (sob), I captured the moment for them to relive together forever.

Theo's First Birthday!

If you have been following the blog in the past year, you've probably "met" Theo by now.

I have had the pleasure of knowing his parents for about 7 years now, and documenting the growth of their little one has been a fun adventure!

To celebrate Theo's first birthday, we met at Long Acre Farms out in Macedon. It's such a neat place if you have never been! We shot at noon on a Saturday... and it was crowded. Generally, this is not the ideal circumstances for a session, but you'd never know by looking at the images!

We seriously could not love this kid any more. Here's a little peek into our portraits and pumpkin picking.

Love you Theo!

Andrea and Lorraine: Rochester NY Wedding Photographers

When we ask our couples what they're looking forward to most on their wedding day, a lot of people often say they can't wait for the party after the ceremony.

Not these two. While they do enjoy a good party, this day was all about the ceremony.

It started with the bells, then a brass section played My Fair Lady's "I'm Getting Married in the Morning" - surprising the bridal party, and creating a feeling of celebration throughout the church.

The songs and readings were selected perfectly. The spontaneous dancing from the cutest ring bearer ever (Lorraine and Andrea's three year old, Judson) was perfectly timed. He also happened to get the best view in the house as the rings were exchanged and vows were spoken.

The whole ceremony was filled with emotions - ranging everywhere from light hearted to sentimental. It really couldn't have been more perfect.

We couldn't have picked a better way to begin our summer wedding season.

Thank you, Andrea and Lorraine for inviting us to be a witness to your amazing day. Cheers to you!

Photographer Reboot : New Zealand!

blog_0392

From April through December, our lives as photographers can be chaotic… in a good way of course! But come January to March, things slow down around here, and hibernation sets in. This year, my husband and I escaped the epically cold month of February and chased down summer… on the other side of the planet!

NEW ZEALAND!! It’s my new happy place. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. It was an unbelievable dream come true. Breathtaking, fun, gorgeous, friendly, walkable, adventurous, relaxing, delicious, sunny… Anyone have plans to work on a teleporter? I’m willing to invest…

Here are a few things we did: boat rides, Hobbiton, ziplines, a hot air balloon ride, wine tasting, biking, hiking, walking, photographing, swimming, driving, busing, hitching, eating, meeting locals and other travelers, and just, you know, enjoying life.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, if visiting New Zealand is not on your bucket list, it should be. And don’t think of it as just a 3 day add on from Australia. Heck no. We spent 16 days there, and I promise you it was not enough!

So I’m going to shut up now, and let the photos do the talking. Enjoy!

Lori
