Toganenwood Estate Wedding: Daniel and Lyla

Together, Daniel and Lyla created a book themed, fall barn wedding in the Finger Lakes. They included a beautiful mixture of culture and heritage, both traditional and non traditional. They created a wedding that displayed who they were, both individually and as a couple. It couldn’t have been more perfect for you.

Well, I mean it could have been warmer and with less of a threat of rain - but not even love can control the weather forecast. Despite the looming clouds, the day flowed perfectly for them.

Traditional touches filled their unplugged ceremony while more non traditional elements filled the barn during their reception. Thali of India provided a fantastic dinner. Rather than a traditional dance floor, Contra dancing (line dancing) as well as the Horah was a huge success for this group of family and friends.

They did everything their way, and it was a fantastic day to end this year’s wedding season. Congratulations Lyla and Daniel!

Steve and Joann: Wintergarden by Monroe's Wedding

Something I know for sure, we honestly work with only the most amazing brides and grooms. Steve and Joann fit that description to a "T". In fact, their bridal party and their entire family was so sweet and loving all day. We are so grateful to have been part of it all.

We met up with them at their venue, The Wintergarden in downtown Rochester as they were getting ready for the day. Even as things started to run late (as they often do at any wedding), they were gracious and kind and wonderful through their nerves.

But as soon as they saw each other during their first look, all those nerves and worries disappeared completely - replaced by joy and tears of happiness. Joann and Steve were so beautiful together. They took those moments and held them tight - and allowed themselves to enjoy every second of their day.

And man, the opportunities for photography nearby and within The Wintergarden are plentiful. Gardens, rooftops, and wall art are all within walking distance of the venue - so much variety and beauty everywhere.

The celebration was so elegant, but yet included so many personal touches - whether in song, or the readings based off their favorite TV shows, or the sweets table that included desserts created by a close friend of the family (who also happens to own her own bakery).

Joann and Steve, it's an honor to know you both. We only wish you lived closer, so we could see more of you! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share in your day and your story. Congratulations!

Favorite Wedding Moments: Syracuse Wedding Photographers

Every so often, (ok, more often than not) the photographs we take evoke a feeling. It's what a photograph is meant to do - take you back to a time and place, reliving your emotions through the image.

If it's not you in the photograph, we hope that the image resonates what the person in it is feeling.

This particular moment was captured in the hours before the wedding ceremony began. The groom had arrived to the church early to help set things up, and then get himself ready. But in the midst of the preparations, Lori captured this moment where he sat down on the altar with his marriage certificate and surveyed the empty church. Alone with his thoughts (albeit short lived) on his wedding day.

It's not often we get the opportunity to focus on the groom, so I don't pretend to know what it was he was thinking. However, I imagine there were some nerves and anticipation in that "calm before the storm" moment. Regardless of what we perceive, the only person who truly knows what that moment was like is him.

FAQ: 4 Reasons Why You Need Two Photographers at Your Wedding

We frequently get asked by couples if both Lori and I will be photographing your wedding. The short answer to that is "yes, always." But some of you might be wondering "why? I mean, isn't one of you enough? I don't want my wedding to turn into a production with two photographers there."

Sure, we hear you there. But we wanted to give you a few reasons why you DO want two wedding photographers capturing your wedding day.

1:  Viewpoints
First the obvious. With two photographers you get two viewpoints of one story. Lori thrives off of her photojournalistic background, as do I, and I love to focus on making sure that romantic side of the story is told also. We may photograph things you don't realize are even happening, because you're busy somewhere else. We can cover more ground, and see more with two sets of eyes than you get with one.

2: Relaxation
Truth time people. Weddings can be chaotic, from the moment you sit down in the makeup chair to the ceremony to family portraits to reception. It's a necessary evil to be organized so that everything runs smoothly. And with both Lori and I there, that's what happens. We can capture all of the important details, and family portraits, and bridal party fun faster when one of us is organizing what's coming up next. And in the end, all of this organization gives you, the Bride and Groom a chance to breathe, relax, and really enjoy the day together.

3: More Ninja Moves
The best compliments we receive after a wedding are along the lines of "I didn't even know you were there!" That's because, with two of us we actually AVOID being noticed. We don't need (or want) to be in anyone's face or way to get a shot, and we don't need to run around a church like maniacs trying to get different angles of the wedding ceremony. Because we're like two trained ninjas, placing ourselves at different locations in advance and then quietly moving short distances. We never need to jog from one end of a church to the other to get a shot.

4: More fun and creativity
We're two extra friends and creative minds, tagging along on your wedding day to laugh with and often at. It's our job to keep you relaxed and comfortable, for those gorgeous real expressions. Throughout the day, Lori and I create a friendly competition between each other to see who can find the most creative shot of the day. Which in the end, gives you even more amazing images.

So, what could be bad about all of that? Not much, right? You get two creative and professional wedding photographers (ps - not a main and an assistant), who you know and have met. Two photographers who stay out of the way when needed, and who make you laugh and keep the day moving at the right times.

In my opinion, it's really a no brainer.

Bill & Stacy: Winter Engagement Session

The whole month of December was unusually warm... except for the one day that Bill and Stacy were in town for their engagement session.

We wandered around High Falls, looking for warmth and great light for photographs. We found at least one of the two easily. With stop in La Luna for a warm up, we all persevered despite frozen fingers, toes and cameras. We even had a little bit of fun too.

I'd like to be cute and say their love kept them warm, but I think it was actually the random jumping jacks and then the beer at the Genesee Brew House.

So excited for their warm, May wedding! Emphasis on "warm"! Check out some of our favorites, and leave Bill and Stacy some love and well wishes too!

Our Favorite Wedding Photographs of 2015: Rochester NY Wedding Photographers

Around this time every year we update our website with some of our favorite images of the past season. During the summer and fall months, we're on the run. We're on the go like energizer bunnies. So now, I get to take the time to sit back, relax (a little), and enjoy all of the beautiful faces all over again. One thing's for sure - 2015 was filled with some amazing people and awesome weddings.

From traveling to Massachusetts, to a few rainy day weddings, to beautiful sunsets on Canandaigua Lake - it was a great year, full of love. We danced, we hugged, we played Kan Jam - we became part of your family for a day. We are so lucky for each and every couple we've met.

I could go on all day about how wonderful the year was. But for your sake, I won't. What I will do is share a few of our absolute favorites from this year's weddings, all chosen for various reasons. And as the winter progresses, I'll be sure to explain a few of them in more detail. But for now, enjoy!  ~ Erin

Gail and Greg: Timberlodge Wedding Photography, Akron NY

Gail and Greg encompassed everything we wish for in a beautiful wedding day. Love everywhere, a beautiful space, lots and lots of great photography options and a relaxed bride and groom.

Relaxed weddings are my favorite, a relaxed bride and groom's are the icing on the cake. From the minute they arrived at the Timberlodge at Arrowhead Golf Club, Gail wasn't the least bit nervous. At least, she didn't show it if she was!

With the ceremony and reception all in the same location, it was easy to slip away for a few minutes to head over to Akron Falls Park for a few bride and groom portraits, as well as out onto the golf course at sunset for some amazing light. We were swatting at the mosquitos the entire time, but it was totally worth it!

They created a natural, easy going, and fun wedding for themselves. They completed the fun with their own choreographed "ninja rap" dances, sparklers and fantastic music choices to keep the party on the dance floor all night!

It makes our job easy when a couple is this beautiful, inside and out. Their love definitely shows through in their images. Greg and Gail, thank you for a wonderful day! We wish you every happiness and a lifetime of love! ~ Erin

The 365 project travels: Rochester NY Photographer

The middle of summer has come and gone. In a flash, I'm taking this 365 project into another new month. I was lucky this month - there was no lack of things happening.

From weddings to travels to Colorado to just ordinary every day adventures in gardening, this was a whirlwind month. But definitely a fun one.

I was in another wedding as the Maid of honor / photographer. And I traveled across the country to photograph a beautiful Colorado wedding also. Lucas in turn, got his first plane ride (and maybe his last), saw real mountains for the first time, and even saw an elk on one of our hikes through the Rocky Mountains.

In less than a month, we'll be singing Lucas Happy Birthday while he dives into a cupcake. Wow. He's now 11 months old, and suddenly looks so much bigger. It's hard to believe that he started out as a 5 lb peanut in my arms.

Well, here's to another month down, five more to go! ~ Erin

Friday Favorite: Rochester NY Wedding Photographers

2014-12-30_0003

It might still be bitter cold outside, but the month of March, makes me think of Spring. This makes me think of green grass, summer time... and weddings! Today's favorite image is from one of our gorgeous, outdoor weddings of 2014. Oh, I can just feel that sun on my face all over again! It's unique, and a fun reflection of our bride and groom having a kiss with the party going on behind them. We're always on the lookout for something different, whether it's a portrait session or a wedding.

At this wedding, we found something different in the VW Beatle that the bride arrived in with her father. So not only was it unique, it was also meaningful, and that makes the image mean even more to me.

See the rest of Ben and Brittany's wedding day here on the blog. And stay warm, friends! Spring is ALMOST here! ~ Erin

Christa & Frank: Burgandy Basin Wedding Photography

2014-10-21_0012

Christa and Frank: First, I want to say thank you. Your wedding was a lot of fun, and a great way to end our season! Even though the day had a few bumps (forgotten shoes, misplaced keys) it all came together, and at the end of the day, you are husband and wife. Congratulations! It was a chilly October day, with a ceremony planned for sunset. Christa and the girls got ready in an amazing suite at the Woodcliff Hotel, while the guys donned their tuxes at The Brewery in Honeoye Falls (the same place we went for their Engagement photos). I love that they each included some Buffalo Bills details into the day!

The ceremony was short and beautiful with a trio of readings from family and friends, who added some personal stories in there too. The look on Frank's face during the whole ceremony was just as you'd hope – full of amazement and happiness. As the light dimmed, we went inside where the party rocked the whole night. I heard some of the best toasts of the year, and saw some new traditions on the dance floor. Enjoy the sneak peek below!

Best wishes on a beautiful life together, and Go Bills! :) -Lori

Joelle & Justin: Buffalo NY Wedding Photography

2014-10-07_0018

Joelle and Justin wanted a casual, relaxed wedding. That is exactly what they got! We arrived at the grooms house and gathered some shots with the easy going groomsmen and the couples dog, Brutus. Then it was on to the bridal prep which was also pretty calm. Joelle wore her mother's wedding gown with some slight modifications. It was perfect for her! They even made a veil from the extra material, which I loved! The ceremony was heartfelt and wonderful, and also included bubbles as they exited the church. After, we slipped back in the church for some formal images. Joelle requested a really neat shot with the parents on either side, which I think I might add to our idea list, I liked it so much! The bridal party escaped on a Trolley as we headed to the Erie Basin Marina. The Marina holds sentimental value to the newlyweds, as it's where they went on their first date. We got out on the pier and enjoyed the gorgeous day, even though it was a bit windy.

On to the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center, where the gents changed into Hawaiian shirts for an awesome Margaritaville themed reception. They really thought the whole theme through with a smoothie bar making margaritas all night long in their customized margarita-glass-favors, and the birds of paradise flowers on the tables completed the room transformation. There was even a steel drum band during the cocktail hour, which was a surprise to the bride and groom from Joelle's mom!   The whole setup was stunning!

A combination of DJ and live band got the party going and the guests enjoyed the food, drinks and dancing all night long. To make the night extra special, Joelle and Justin were featured on the big screen outside of the Convention Center, and we had some special four-legged guests join us for photos! It was a truly magical night, and we were honored to capture it.

Enjoy the photos, and congratulations Justin and Joelle!

-Lori

Aimee + Evan: Burgandy Basin Wedding Photography, Pittsford NY Wedding Photographers

Durkin 5

They're self proclaimed "goofballs." Fun loving and romantic - Aimee calls him her "big teddy bear." But this teddy bear groom, also looks good in uniform. Evan, is an officer in the National Guard.

Evan was home on leave for the holidays when he proposed. He'd made his own Christmas ornament, and hid the ring in it on the Christmas tree. I don't think Aimee expected that taking down the Christmas tree on New Years Day would be so exciting!

Their wedding was held at the Burgandy Basin Inn. From the first look to the reception, everything about this day was beautiful. No detail was left untouched from the beautiful blue bridesmaids dresses to the bouquets of orange lilies.  Even the threat of rain held off until well after their outdoor ceremony - which definitely didn't leave a dry eye in the house.

And there's nothing like an introduction which included "The Wobble" to kick off the events of the night. Their goofy, fun spirits were enjoyed by all, as well as a never ending supply of love for all those who came to celebrate with them. It was a great day, for a beautiful couple in love.  We're so glad to have been there to capture the beauty of it all for them. Congratulations Aimee & Evan!
