Jerris Wadsworth Wedding Barn: Amber & Jason

They are sweet and quiet together, but also seek out adventure. I'm currently pretty jealous of their adventurous honeymoon out west visiting places like Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.

It was an honor to capture and witness Amber and Jason's emotion filled wedding day. It's been a very long time since I've seen so many happy tears from nearly everyone in attendance. What a blessing to be loved so hard by so many people! It was so special.

Their sweet ceremony at Greece Assembly of God felt so inviting and warm. When they each saw each other at the end of the aisle, there were so many emotions. Naturally, I love, love, love capturing real emotions.

It's their story, and it's full of happy tears. The emotions continued to flow freely at Jerris Wadsworth Wedding Barn in Caledonia. Lori and I could have spent hours upon hours photographing Amber and Jason on these grounds. There are soooooooo many unique places and beautiful spaces to be used.

But alas, they had a party to enjoy, and enjoy they did. The toasts were lovely, dinner delicious and dance floor rocked all night. It was an amazing event for an amazing couple joining their families together.

Congratulations Jason and Amber!

Venue Spotlight: Suzanne's Fine Regional Cuisine

There are some truly spectacular places to eat in the Finger Lakes and Upstate New York area. Beautiful spaces with delicious food and a feeling of warmth provided by the hosts.

One such location happens to be a newfound favorite of ours as a wedding venue. It's probably a little lesser known, but that's because they focus their attention on the right weddings for their space. Suzanne's Fine Regional Cuisine is worth the drive if you're looking for a great barn wedding space with delicious home made, farm to table meals made by Suzanne herself (the head chef!)

The little farmhouse is a cute, intimate space. The hidden gazebo by the pond as the ceremony site is natural, peaceful and happy. Then the barn atmosphere creates a great space for dinner and dancing the night away. And our personal favorite - there are so many opportunities for beautiful images everywhere.

Bob and Suzanne, along with their staff create the perfect home like atmosphere for simple, intimate weddings. If you're looking for an alternative to a ballroom wedding, this is a great place to start. In the future, they want to focus their attention on more small catered events, such as anniversary parties and rehearsal dinners - which are perfect for their space.

It was a great pleasure to work with them, and we can't wait to see them again at future events. Here's a glimpse at a recent highlight album from their beautiful space, enjoy!

Favorite Wedding Moments: A Bride, Flower Girl, and a Pedicure

I know the instinct well now. It's that indescribable feeling that a mom gains the instant they become a parent. The one that cares so much for her children that even on her own wedding day, she's making sure that everything is perfect for them.

All of the details, down to the toenails. When I saw this image, that's exactly what it said to me. Melissa, our beautiful bride was ready to go. Her own hair and makeup had been done for hours, and she'd already stepped into her dress.

But then, while they waited for a rain shower to pass, she noticed some toe nails that needed painting on a special little flower girl. So as any mom would do, wedding dress and all, she knelt down with a bottle of nail polish and painted those toes.

As a mom, it speaks to me, and makes me smile as I recall more memories from that wedding day. It was so perfectly normal to her, as if this was any other day. But obviously it wasn't any other day.

In my eyes, that moment was real and it was beautiful.

They had already waited a long time for this day. But they knew that they could wait another thirty minutes for a storm to pass for the day to go on as planned perfectly.

Favorite moments, and advice from a Bride

Our advice today comes from Rebecca Serven, one of our wonderful brides of 2014. She shared with us how the wedding planning process not only provided her with great memories to cherish, but it also made their relationship stronger.

The true story of a perfect DIY wedding, from the Bride herself:

The search for the perfect wedding location started as probably some normal wedding venue searches go... my mom and I looking at possible places and reporting back to my fiancé with the options. Dan had told me "what ever I wanted, it's my day."  So venturing near and far, taking pictures and notes and asking my questions, I would come home excited about what I found, chattering about what is good and what I thought was bad. Dan was a great sport, listening and viewing the pictures. While I was excited to be searching, I felt something was lacking. It probably took me a couple of venues to realize why I was not satisfied with the progress. There were some beautiful locations and Dan would watch and listen and talk but he was not excited. He was happy to leave the decision up to me. If anyone knows me, making decisions is sometimes not the easiest (though saying YES to the proposal was a piece of cake!).

I realized that I wanted Dan to be excited about the location we decided. So one weekend, I mentioned having the wedding on the farm. Oh boy did I get a response!! Dan immediately started talking about moving farm equipment, concreting the floor in the barn, building a loft, cleaning up the yard, using a field for a parking lot. It was right then and there, that I knew, we were going to have the wedding on the farm, not just any farm, but Our Farm. As soon as we started talking about it seriously, Dan was involved, he was excited, and he knew that this was something we could do well and do together! To have my fiancé looking forward to planning the wedding as much as I was -made it PERFECT!

The before and after transformation.

The before and after transformation.

It was not my wedding, it was not his wedding, it was our wedding and what a better way to start out a marriage than as a team, working for a common goal and accomplishing something that would be ours forever, wrapped in memories of hard work, determination, team work and love.

To say that I have one favorite memory of the wedding day is impossible. To say I have many cherished memories leading up to  and including the wedding day is more truthful.  Dan and I had a year and a half to prepare for our wedding day by cleaning, digging, building, buying, coordinating and planning so that our home, our farm, was ready. These are the true memories I cherish, going to garage sales for the plates, building the loft, cleaning tables, seeding the parking lot, moving the equipment, working along side family and friends, and knowing that this effort was supported and accomplished by both Dan and I.

From the shed to the wishing well, it was all built by hand with love.

From the shed to the wishing well, it was all built by hand with love.

So some advice to upcoming brides and grooms:

1. If you can plan your wedding with your fiancé (whether DIY, or just coordinating with a venue), jump at the chance. It creates memories of a lifetime, the importance of your wedding day becomes even more special, and you start to build the foundation for a strong relationship together.

2. If you plan a DIY wedding, remember the details are great, but if you get down to the wire on time, cut them out. People are there to see you and your fiancé get married, not the details. What is completed will be great, and they will never know if there was something "else" you wanted to do!

3. Enjoy the adventure along your way to the wedding day.

4. Number your RSVP cards and coordinate it with a name. Occasionally someone forgets to actually write their name on it as when it is returned.

5. Always remember to have a box in your vehicle, you never know when you will happen upon a great garage sale.

6. A little dirt never killed anyone!

7. Don't be afraid to modify the wedding ceremony, if you don't like something or want to add something. Remember, it is about the two of you!

8. Delegate

9. Pictures, pictures, pictures!

10. Don't' stress yourself out. You are not alone - talk to your fiancé.

Becky and Dan: Waterloo NY Barn Wedding, Finger Lakes Wedding Photography

2014-06-19_0028

Last September, Becky and Dan's barn looked like this:2014-06-19_0034.jpg

This month, it looked like this: 2014-06-19_0007.jpgTalk about a true labor of love! What a transformation! I mean, I admit when Becky said they were completely renovating a barn on their own property for their wedding, I didn't see this level of gorgeous coming. It was absolutely stunning, this was a true DIY wedding. They baled every hay bale themselves, assembled each of 50 tables as well as a balcony to hold them, bought every vintage plate and glass, and strung every chandelier and light. And all of their little details worked together beautifully - they left nothing untouched.

From the smiles, tears and laughter we captured on their wedding day, you could clearly see that every ounce of sweat was worth it. If you ask them today if they agree, I'm guessing they'd say yes. What a beautiful day, and wonderful plan to get married in your own backyard.

Imagine the stories that Becky and Dan will get to share with their children and grandchildren - that all started at home on their farm. Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones talking, but that get's me a little teary eyed.

Take a look at the rest of these images - you'll see what I mean! Congratulations to the sweetest, warmest and most welcoming family on such a spectacular wedding day! ~Erin

Mike & Kim: Wingate Barn Wedding Photography, Livonia NY

Meet Kim and Mike.  They're a fun, down to earth couple, who now get to add "newlyweds" to their list of titles! Rainy and chilly weather became sort of a recurring pattern for our October weddings. Thankfully, the rain held out until we made it to the beautiful Wingate Barn. The bridal party was cold, but they were troopers and stuck it out for some great outdoor photographs. I believe that all of the fun and love shared in the barn that night helped to keep everyone warm.

Upon first glance, a guest would have thought that they hired a wedding planner. Everywhere you looked, there was a cute, hand made detail. But no, they created each one themselves, right down to the well designed timeline sheet they sent to us! I know there were many hours of hard work put into this event, but it was worth it. Clearly this was no ordinary D-I-Y affair, and we loved it.

Mike and Kim, it was an honor to capture so many wonderful moments throughout the day for you. Congratulations! Here's to many more to come!

Nicole & Chris: Virginia Wine Country Wedding, Destination Wedding Photographers

When we were asked to photograph this wedding, it made our day. We love this family so much! Being a part of their celebrations over the past few years has meant the world to us. This time around, we were also excited because it meant we'd get to travel to somewhere warmer, sunny and beautiful. So imagine our surprise when we learned that the weather for our time at the Bluemont Vineyard in Virginia would be rainy and cold, while here at home it would be warm and sunny. And when I say rain, I don't mean a sprinkle or two. No, I mean "a record rainfall of 3.38 inches was set..."  Yeah, it rained that much.

Here's the thing though, rain doesn't stop a wedding. The venue is still beautiful, guests still arrive, vows are still exchanged and love is still shared. We were impressed by how relaxed everyone was, regardless of the circumstances. One thing was clear, no amount of rain was going to ruin Chris and Nicole's day.
