Valentine's Day is For Everyone: Fairport NY Photographers

Valentine's Day. Whether your totally for it or tend to call it "amateur hour," it's a holiday that as photographers, we do not ignore. It doesn't come in one shape or size, but it does fit everyone.

We stand for love. And while yes, the traditional holiday is meant for romantic gestures between loves - it's also so much more. Romantic love isn't the only game in town.

Yes, love is a first kiss and a first dance.

But it's also a 60th wedding anniversary dance.

Love is cuddling your kids.

Love is cherishing time with grandparents.

Love is having everyone in the same place, because it's rare.

Love is sisters and brothers.

Love is an adorable pet.

Love is your girl squad.

Love is reminiscing over first dates together.

Love is holding hands through the hard stuff.

Love is enjoying the silly things.

Love, is whatever you want it to be. It's whatever moment means the most to you, with those you truly treasure.

Valentine's Day is for everyone, because love is everything.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Three couples, Three Generations: Rochester NY Portraits

Three couples, three generations and three dogs! And I managed to leave without taking any of the pups home with me... that's an accomplishment!

A celebration of family... that's what this session was. What started 65 years ago between two people has brought this family together. What an incredibly friendly, easy-going group who made this session one of my favorites to date! They welcomed me into their home to document the life and memories that have been made inside those walls. And outside too! They enjoy the fire pit out back, and the custom built shed.

As the three ladies made meatballs together, I secretly wished I could be doing that with my grandmother. In a way, it was like she was there with me. (Love and miss you Grandma Dupe!)

Laura and family – Thank you for being a beautiful example of family. I hope you enjoy looking back on these memories for many years to come!

Happy Father's Day: Fairport NY Photography

We talk to a lot of moms, and we talk a lot about Moms. Maybe it's because I am one, so I can pretty easily empathize and share in how they feel on a daily basis.

But don't think we haven't noticed you Dads. We're so honored to know and photograph amazing Fathers - whether part of our Membership program, or a normal family portrait session, or even at a wedding.

We see the playful laughter you provide when you start a tickle fight. We see the way your eyes light up as your kids learn and discover something new. We see the quiet moments you share with them that otherwise might be hidden from view - the cuddles, the kisses, the bedtime stories.

We see the pride and joy on a job well done in your face as they graduate. We see the stoicism and more often than not, the tears as you walk them down the aisle as adults.

You may not have carried them in the womb, but you're there for everything else. I believe it is because you also know that these days are fleeting. Today we thank you for being open with us, and for allowing us a glimpse of the relationship you have with your children.

Happy Father's Day to all of our amazing Dads!

2016 With Lucas P

Looking back on the year in pictures, I am again reminded of how fortunate I am as a mother and a wife. I took 1500 fewer personal photos in 2016, but I can still see how much my baby has changed. His chubby round baby face has thinned out, and he's become a imaginative, active little boy.

Our family life now has a third voice. It's sometimes a much louder, dictator style voice and sometimes a sweet, lovable two year old voice. He's gone from a baby to a toddler with his own likes, dislikes and opinions.

We explored nature, playgrounds, animals, sports, trucks, farms, zoos, and riding bikes this year. Watching him with the rest of the family has been nothing short of amazing. Holidays like Easter, Halloween and Christmas were all newish to him, but met with enthusiasm and learning.

Where he once didn't care about his clothes, he now has his own ideas. Star Wars socks MUST be on his feet at all times, but only the Stormtrooper socks.  Darth Vader are only acceptable if the Stormtroopers are dirty.

Thomas the Train is his newest "favorite thing ever" and also the first toy he's ever had that never leaves his hands. When he goes to bed, we read his Super Hero rules, so that we always remember to "Be Extraordinary."

These are just some of the things I want to remember forever about 2016. But without the pictures - will I?

I didn't photograph every moment; some were better spent being in them. Some I wish I had captured, but am glad I was more of a part of them than last year.

With the exception of the occasional toddler tantrum, all of the moments were loved - whether photographed or not.

Here's to new adventures with #LucasP and more love in 2017.

Fall Family Session in the Eastman Gardens

The Eastman Museum is gorgeous all year round, but the colors of autumn cannot be beat. This family of four and I enjoyed the afternoon exploring the gardens.

As with most of our sessions, you'll find a great mixture of portraits and play. And play we did!

Enjoy these cuties and the Fall colors!

Until next time,

Wild Wings, Mendon Ponds Family Portraits

I've known Mikaela all of her life (hehe), and I've known her parents longer. It's been an honor to have them as members in our Portrait Membership program, and get watch them all grow together as a family.

I also have a two year old who never sits still. So I'm no stranger to chasing a two year old around at a family portrait session.

Which is exactly what I did with Mikaela. She's a peanut, but she's a fast peanut. She ran around the trail at Mendon Ponds like she owned the place. And she stopped only long enough to watch a few birds land in their hands at the Wild Wings Nature Center. (If you've never been there, it's a fun place and an easy hike for toddlers!)

By the end - Mom, Dad, and Grandma might have had tired legs, but Mikaela could have kept going all day. What an adventurous and adorable little lady!

I can't wait to see where the adventures take them next!

Lucas P turns two

Lucas P turns two

And just like that I have a two year old. And while I show you mostly the good stuff, not every minute of toddlerhood is magical. But his hugs and sloppy kisses usually outweigh the toddler tantrums. I swear, his full belly laugh makes me stop whatever mundane task I'm doing nearly every time.

At home family portraits | Victor NY

Where's your happy place? Is it the park near your house? The beach? Or your own backyard? Close your eyes and picture that space, and how it makes you feel.

Now, if that's where you're most comfortable, and most you - why not create your family photos in your happy place?

If that's your backyard, let's do it! Much like this family enjoys hanging out by the pool and relaxing at home. If you look out your window and it makes you smile, then it's a perfect spot for your portrait session.

Besides that - we love shooting in unique spaces like these, and since every home is different, they're all unique! We also love to be able to tell the story of who you are at home, just like this family!

Oh and by the way - check out these amazing arrangements designed by the talented Stacy K Floral! They're so pretty, love them!
