Joshua: Churchville Chili High School, Volleyball Senior Portraits

It has been such a pleasure getting to know Joshua. We share a love of photography, so he appreciates what we do and how we do it. Besides that, he is a great kid with many interests and an easy going personality.

For his senior portrait session, we incorporated his love of volleyball with his enjoyment of the outdoors. We were also able to get in to the auditorium at Churchville Chili High School for some images with his clarinet, and had a few guest stars as well. Josh’s “nephew” is starting kindergarten this year, so it was special to have a photograph of the two of them together. And his girlfriend of three years, Maddy, was also not going to miss out on the fun.

Some rain clouds tried to ruin our night, but everyone stuck it out and we were able to get great images despite the clouds. Thanks Josh for being a fun subject and bringing all of your ideas to the session. Can’t wait to work with you again soon!

Earth Day, Earth Month, Earth Always

walking along the erie canal

I have always loved animals, nature, and being outside.

Being a photographer, I get to incorporate that passion into a vast majority of our sessions. Turns out I'm not the only one who likes to be outside!

Since I started helping people treasure their lives through photography, I've realized a lot of those moments take place in the great outdoors. The people I have met along the way have brought me to parks, trails, and favorite vacation spots I hadn’t seen before. I often return to them after the session, to explore with my husband and dogs.

I am so incredibly grateful for these opportunities. I get to work under the clouds and trees. I get to see kids enjoying the paths and ponds, mud and bugs all around us.

So it's natural to me to want to protect what I love, and where I work.

Our family loves to be outdoors and explore!

With a global population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, demand may surpass nature’s ability to provide, unless conservation measures are put into place today.

I'd like to invite you, this Earth Day and every day, to think about your impact on our planet. Are you helping it or are you hurting it?

If you'd like a place to start, check out some of the small steps below. It wasn't all at once, but I have been building toward a more sustainable life one step at a time. Individually, perhaps is no big deal. But all together, it adds up.

  • Growing your own vegetables (our grocery bill appreciates this!)
  • Water your garden with rain water collected by a rain barrel
  • Start composting (Pretty darn easy, ask me for tips if you’re wondering!)
  • Join the NRDC, The Sierra Club, The Arbor Day Foundation, or another nature oriented cause (free address labels, if nothing else 😜)
  • Become a member of Eco System Restoration Camps (I find this start up lends me optimism when I feel despair)
  • Attend local events, such as those by the Rochester People's Climate Coalition
  • Reduce the amount of beef consumption and add more vegetarian meals to your menu (we’re certainly not vegan, but it’s something)
  • Reduce your use of cleaning solutions where soap and water will do (we're partial to Norwex for cleaning with just water).

Giving Back : 1% for the Planet

earth from above

Imagine living in a world where you have to wear a mask before going outside, or you wake up not knowing if you will have access to clean water that day. It's not just foreign countries being impacted by climate change. Everyone, everywhere, is affected whether we realize it or not.

Now imagine that your actions can make a difference. That you could help reverse the damage done by pollution and wastefulness. After reading Drawdown by Paul Hawken, I felt hope. It is possible to reverse the damage from carbon emissions and you and I can do it.

When I came across 1% for the Planet, it seemed like a great way to use our business to make a difference.

1% for the Planet is a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through annual membership and everyday actions. We advise on giving strategies, we certify donations, and we amplify the impact of our network.

Every year, 1% of our gross proceeds will go to charities dedicated to protecting the earth.

“1% for the Planet certifies giving on an annual basis by reviewing each business's sales documentation as well as reviewing donation receipts made to approved nonprofit partners.”

Part of it is the donation itself, yes. But it's also the awareness of the campaign and knowing that people vote with their dollars. If supporting an environmentally friendly business is important to you, you're in the right place.

We feel you!

I love how Rick Crawford put it: "...consumers hold the power to demand a future that is actually sustainable. By demanding products and services from businesses that are solving social and environmental problems, consumers set trends that can't be ignored."

Thank you for your support and if this cause is important to you, now you know that every time you shop with us 1% is going back to the planet.

PS: Leave a comment, we'd love to know your thoughts on this initiative!

Lisa and Brandon: Letchworth State Park Engagement Session

Brandon and Lisa are comfortable and perfectly relaxed together, they should be, they've known each other practically forever. It's safe to say they've been together as long as they've known each other. They met as kids in 5th grade, and began in high school.

So being engaged was just as natural progression to them being together. And their engagement session at Letchworth State Park was a night full of fun, laughs and love.

I loved watching them together - how Brandon would let his goofy side out, and Lisa would join right in. But then a few moments later, they would wrap up in each other as though no one else was around.

It was a relaxed, beautiful night with beautiful people in love. Can't wait to see them when they take their next steps together as husband and wife!

My Favorite Family Portrait: Allegany State Park

My Favorite Family Portrait: Allegany State Park

Yet I have one of my favorite family portraits. It's not posed perfectly. My son is taking off his shoes (one of his favorite activities these days). And we certainly didn't coordinate our clothes that morning. Heck, half of us were lucky we'd even showered. Makeup? Forget it.

I don't care, I still love the results.

Photographer Reboot : New Zealand!

From April through December, our lives as photographers can be chaotic… in a good way of course! But come January to March, things slow down around here, and hibernation sets in. This year, my husband and I escaped the epically cold month of February and chased down summer… on the other side of the planet!

NEW ZEALAND!! It’s my new happy place. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. It was an unbelievable dream come true. Breathtaking, fun, gorgeous, friendly, walkable, adventurous, relaxing, delicious, sunny… Anyone have plans to work on a teleporter? I’m willing to invest…

Here are a few things we did: boat rides, Hobbiton, ziplines, a hot air balloon ride, wine tasting, biking, hiking, walking, photographing, swimming, driving, busing, hitching, eating, meeting locals and other travelers, and just, you know, enjoying life.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, if visiting New Zealand is not on your bucket list, it should be. And don’t think of it as just a 3 day add on from Australia. Heck no. We spent 16 days there, and I promise you it was not enough!

So I’m going to shut up now, and let the photos do the talking. Enjoy!

Would you like to see more? Let me know! I’m currently working on my panoramic album and would be happy to share it when it's done!

Kyle & Alicia, and Caleb too : Rochester NY Engagement Session

My baby brother's gettinnnng marrrieeed! Eeee! Yay! Woo hoo! Sorry - I'll try to rein in my excitement a little bit. Woot! (Whispered).

Seriously though, in June my brother Kyle is going to marry Alicia. Together with my awesome nephew, Caleb, they kept us laughing and having fun on our way through the Lamberton Conservatory for their engagement-slash-family session. I can't believe how fast Caleb's growing up in front of our eyes, and am so excited to see where the future leads him.

To my brudder and his beautiful fiance - I'm so excited for you both, and am so honored to be a part of this time with you. Love you! ~ Erin

Katie | Penfield Senior Portraits

I'm not sure how we got so lucky last year, but we have had the opportunity to work with some pretty amazing seniors. Katie was no exception - she just shined inside and out. We enjoyed a gorgeous summer night at the Penfield Town Hall, which is such a fun place to shoot. With flowers, brick and paint peeling off of wood, the backgrounds vary without distracting from this stunning young woman.Katie, it was truly a pleasure getting to know you! Best wishes in your upcoming adventures!

Laura and Kevin: Letchworth State Park Engagement Session

If you ask me, I knew when Laura met Kevin that she'd found the right guy. There was something in the way she talked about him that gave her away. But that's just this girl's opinion. I've been honored to watch this relationship grow from "I think I like him," to "We're getting married!" He makes her laugh, and she does the same for him. Their cute and cuddly pets are koi fish. Apparently, Kevin also enjoys turtles. They're favorite things to do together include "waterfall observation" and "legos!"  They're nerdy, artsy-smartsy, and silly.

Quite honestly they're absolutely perfect together.

I'm doubly honored to get to be a part of their wedding day story, as an MOH. We are currently on the hunt for the perfect dress. One which not only looks glamorous, but in which I can photograph as well. Because,'s me, I don't know how to NOT shoot at a wedding. Thankfully, Lori will have us covered as well.

For their engagement session, we returned to the scene of the proposal at Letchworth State Park. It was a beautiful night, for a beautiful couple! I can't wait to see what the future holds for these two. In the meantime - let the dress hunt continue! As Kevin would say "Adventure!"

Fall Photo Hike 2014: Corbett's Glen, Rochester NY Photography

We're so lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of the world in the fall season. Gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges all around us on every tree branch. We love to photograph our family sessions every fall, but we also love to just get out there and enjoy it as well. A hike was the perfect way to take it all in. It's such a great location in all seasons for hiking. This Fall, our photo hike took us back to Corbett's Glen. We had a small but great group along with us, and we all took away something different from the hike. Stronger friendships, a little photography knowledge and the beauty around us made for a great morning.

It's always so interesting to see what each individual eye sees, especially when we're all in the same setting. And so as usual, we've compiled everyone's photographs into one slideshow to share! Enjoy what we saw in this slideshow, and next time come along!

Morgan's 9 Month Portraits | Rochester NY Family Photography

Does this girl just keep getting cuter? I think so! If you've been following the blog, you've met Morgan before. This session was to celebrate her at 9 months. We started at home with the dogs, and then headed out to a relatives house for some shots with the pond and barn. It was an incredible location, and Morgan rocked it with her numerable adorable outfits! blog_0151.jpg blog_0150.jpg blog_0148.jpg blog_0152.jpg blog_0149.jpg

Can't wait for our next installment in the first year program. Stay tuned! Lori
