Ventosa Vineyards Wedding Photography: Lum and Mark

It’s been a long while since one of our couples has decided not to do a first look on their wedding day. So when Lum and Mark told me they preferred not to for their September wedding at Ventosa Vineyards, I was a little surprised, but not overwhelmed.

With years of experience at planning timelines with couples and vendors like Ventosa Vineyards, we knew exactly what the plan would be - and that we were perfectly planning for their golden hour portraits in the vineyards. And as you may have noticed, it all went beautifully.

Their reception was stunning - amazing designs by Bradley James throughout the room, mixed with their family and friends was the most beautiful setting for the party to come. Their specially coordinated first dance was a crowd pleaser, the food and fun spectacular, and the end of the night sparkler exit all made for an amazing wedding day!

Congratulations Mark and Lum - here’s to you!

Venue Highlights: Shadow Lake Weddings, Rochester NY

We’ve been having fun showing off our vineyard venues, so why not show off a local Rochester wedding venue? Our hope is that we can share a little insight to some of the venues we’ve had the pleasure of working at and give a helping hand to any newly engaged couples!

Shadow Lake has two great reception locations for your wedding day - and we’ve had the pleasure of working in both. The Garden Tent holds approximately 175 people and the newly renovated (and gorgeous) Clubhouse can accommodate up to 250 of your favorite people. Either option has a fantastic waterside view.

You can also have your wedding ceremony right on the grounds - whether on the water or facing the lush greens of the course. Either option creates a picturesque backdrop for your ceremony photographs. (Enter us!)

Beyond that, the staff goes above and beyond to create an amazing day for each and every couple. And the food is fantastic! The chef’s in the kitchen create delicious meals using mostly local and home made ingredients. Yes, please!

Highlighting the whole venue for us is the multitude of options for a variety of great photographs. There are floral scenes, the waterfront and perfect locations for brilliant sunsets.

So if you’re checking out wedding venues in Rochester NY, stop on in and visit Ryan and the team for a tour! We hope to see you there!

Vineyard Wedding Venues Series, Finger Lakes NY: Casa Larga Vineyards

Round two of our Vineyard Wedding venues brings us to Casa Larga. Since we’re photographers in Fairport NY, it’s basically our next door neighbor. And any chance we get to photograph a wedding close to home is a win for us!

I love Casa Larga for it’s amazing sunsets in the vineyards and for the variety of amazing location options to create beautiful wedding photographs. The team is wonderful to work with in helping brides and grooms create the reception of their dreams.

Not too long ago they renovated their ballroom space, which also makes it a huge draw for a winery wedding reception in Rochester NY. It’s a large, grand space with great window light on the dance floor. They can easily accommodate up to 250 guests, so if you have a big guest list, this is a great option for you.

Take a peek and gather some insp from some of the fun and beauty we’ve captured as wedding photographers at Casa Larga Vineyards. Are you having a vineyard wedding? Tell us about it in the comments!

Shadow Lake Wedding Photography, Penfield NY: Christina and Adam

Photographing Adam and Christina’s Fairport wedding felt like coming home. In more ways that one. And not just because we were only ever 10 minutes from home at any given moment.

It felt like home because of the people - these two, and their families are practically family to us. Their wedding kicked off our season with not only the best weather imaginable for an early April day in Rochester, but also the best people and awesome vendors.

We felt peace throughout the house when we arrived, even the flower girls were calm and ready for the day ahead. Because we had planned everything together so thoroughly, all there was left to do was enjoy the day.

And they did. The ceremony at Church of the Assumption in Fairport was love filled and emotional. We met up with Larry (their goldendoodle) and a crowd favorite for his close up on the canal in Fairport. There was even enough time for a snack from McDonalds before heading over to Shadow Lake for their reception. (Which if you haven’t seen their renovations and are looking for a Rochester area wedding venue - stop in there for sure.)

It was the perfect wedding to begin another year as wedding photographers in Rochester NY. We had waited for this day with them for so long. To witness it and be part of it meant everything to us and left us feeling inspired for the season ahead.

Congratulations to you Christina and Adam - thank you for enriching our lives with who you are, individually and together.

Arbor Loft Wedding Photography, in Steph and Paul's Eyes

When we put together a blog post from an awesome Rochester NY Wedding, we tend to use the photos that speak to us the most. They’re the ones we felt pulled to share and also tell a great story about a couples’ wedding day.

But we also love to find out which of your wedding photographs you love too. Sometimes they’re the same as our choices, sometimes they’re not. Steph and Paul shared a few of their favorites from their Downtown Rochester NY Arbor Loft Wedding with us, and why they loved them.

It was a rainy day, so we had to make use of every inch of space The Arbor Loft had available, as well as every ounce of creativity we had. If you’re wondering how we did it, you can do a lot with a simple window and hallway when you need to.

So here’s what they shared with me, and why they’re their favorites - from angles and composition, to showing true personalities all the way to capturing the most authentic and memorable moments.

“We loved the location and the series was a perfect representation representation of Paul's personality.”

“During our ceremony, when it was time for Paul to repeat his vows he had a moment of uncontrollable nervous laughter which in turn triggered Steph to laugh. It was an absolutely real moment that we found to be endearing and raw. It was so spontaneously unexpected and we both just ran with it. We'll never forget it and it will always be one of my favorite memories from that day.”

“I really loved everything about this photo - the angle with the wall, the white fluffy rug and blue couch, the city building in the background, and the texture of the wall - I just found everything about it to be beautiful and interesting.”

Thank you Steph and Paul for sharing your thoughts with us and allowing us to share them with the world.

FAQ: Our Wedding Photography Style, Rochester NY

What's our Style? It's very a common question. It's a question that every wedding website and bridal magazine in Rochester tells couples to ask.  A common answer from a wedding photographer might simply be: "photojournalistic” or “candid.” I mean, those are the buzzwords couples want to hear, right?

They’re great answers. However, we feel that there's a bit more to a photography style, and a wedding day than strictly photojournalism. Which is where we come in, because we believe that our style is composed of two distinct roles as a photographer. One where both of us are fully able to fill both roles.

Our wedding photography is a beautiful blend of the romance you want to see in each other, and the documentary style of photography that tells the real story as it's happening. All the while, our focus is on the very real relationships that matter to you.

As you look through our wedding portfolio page, you'll see what we mean.

You'll also notice that our images are clean and timeless. Do we offer black and white? Yes, because it's a classic look. That said, we purposely choose NOT to use faded filters and effects on our images. Why? Because we don't follow fads. Because when you look back at your wedding album in 25 years, you don't want to say "Oh look, the Instagram Era." Your album will always look timeless and real.

Because a wedding is more than just one style of photography. Between the two of us, we each have an eye and a love for both!

Two viewpoints, to tell one timeless story - yours.

Highland Park, Rochester NY Vow Renewal: Juanita & Ronald

It’s been 30 years of ups, downs and all arounds, but here they are. In the same spot where they said the original wedding vows, 30 years ago. The trees are a little taller, their love a little stronger. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they shared their love publicly and yet intimately.

I felt honored to be there as a witness to this moment. This renewal, this promise repeated. We often see the start of a marriage, the first few amazing hours of it. It’s lovely to revisit that love over time and see how it matures.

Thanks for letting us bear witness to your journey. Wishing you 30 more!

Ventosa Vineyards: Katie and Tyler's Fall Finger Lakes Wedding

Peanut butter and Jelly. Salt and Pepper. Chips and Salsa. There are some things that just naturally go together. Katie and Tyler are two of those things - their officiant told us all as much. They’re different, but a perfect fit together. We couldn’t agree more.

As our last Ventosa Vineyards wedding of the year, it was a little bittersweet, but the perfect ending to a fantastic year with their amazing team of great people.

With a fun loving bridal party and fantastic family, the cloudy, chilly day was filled with warmth. There were funny moments, lots of inside jokes, fantastic food and an amazing dance floor courtesy of Q Music Productions.

Katie and Tyler, we’re so grateful for you and your families. Thank you for welcoming us into your day with humor and love. Congratulations!

Finger Lakes Wedding Photography: Sara and Larry

What I love about Sara and Larry could fill an entire book. They are the kindest, most genuine couple. They’re sweet together and super fun to be around. They’re individuals and also equals.

I only wish they lived closer so we could continue to be around them all the time. They each have a sense of humor that matches ours perfectly. Every time I think of them, I smile a stupidly happy grin.

I haven’t even gotten to their wedding yet, which was perfect in it’s own Sara and Larry way. We’ve spent a lot of time at Ventosa Vineyards this year. Each time we’re there, it gets better and better. No two sunsets on Seneca Lake are the same which is why we love being photographers in the Finger Lakes (and Rochester too for that matter).

From first look to the wine cellar, to the dance floor and sparkler exit - the day was filled with amazing moments for a truly amazing couple. Congratulations Larry and Sara and thank you, for coming into our lives. Enjoy Italy!

Corbett's Glen Engagement Session: Christina and Adam

Sweet. Adorable. Snuggly. Loveable.

But enough about their puppy, Larry.

We've been looking forward to this engagement session for a lonnnngg time. I think they have been too. They waited for the summer (it's their favorite time of year) to come and for their goldendoodle puppy to be ready.

But before all that, they waited for each other. Because of the wait, Christina and Adam are a perfect fit together. They're both educators. They're smart, sensitive and funny.

They remember down to the aisle (18a in Wegmans) where they had their first kiss on one of their first dates. We thought it'd be funny to recreate that scene, but Corbett's Glen, where they got engaged, won out.

It was such a fun morning with the three of them. We mostly laughed at Larry and his super cute playfulness. It was hot and humid for an engagement session in Penfield NY, but you'd never know it from looking at their awesome expressions and love.

Congratulations Adam and Christina, we're so happy that you've found each other, and cannot wait to be part of it all with you!

Seneca Lake Wedding Photography: Laura and Patrick

The heatwave that had been lingering lessened for one day, as we met the bridal party getting ready at the stunning Del Lago Hotel & Casino. It was a gorgeous start to another great Finger Lakes wedding day.

The groom and his guys were up for anything, even a quick trip into the Casino, while the bride and her ladies finished getting gorgeous.

And then, off to Ventosa Vineyards we went where it was the most perfect day for Laura and Pat to have all of their loved ones gather together to celebrate with them. It's such a beautiful and rare moment in life to have all of your favorite people in one place at one time.

I have so many memorable moments from their wedding day - from reading and writing their vows, their sweet first look, the cutest flower girl ever, some stellar dance moves and the feeling of love surrounding them.

And that SUNSET though...seriously, sailboats and everything! It was goooorgeous - just like Laura and Pat. Congratulations you two!

Wintergarden by Monroes: Rochester NY Heirloom Album

Joann and Steve's wedding at the Wintergarden by Monroes was nothing short of amazing.

Since then, I've been patiently waiting to design their heirloom wedding album. Finally, my chance arrived! And it came together perfectly.

Their wedding story, from the first look to end of the night dancing looks amazing as you turn the pages in this 12x9 lustre album.

There's something about this album that pulls our couples in. The design, the size and the story - it all works together to create something beautiful. Every single time.

Enjoy a peek at this wedding day story, told in the pages of Joann and Steve's heirloom album.
