Genesee Valley Club, Rochester NY Wedding: Kyra and Alex

I wish I had copies of Kyra and Alex’s wedding vows, because they not only fit them perfectly, but they were real. They referenced clogged drains and real life situations and the every day life that real couples experience. They saw this day as a beautiful moment, but also saw the future before them too.

Together with an amazing team of Rochester wedding vendors they created an amazing Rochester NY Wedding day. We’d like to give a huge thank you to Lisa from Limedrop Events, the staff at The Genesee Valley Club and florals from Wisteria Flowers for helping this day run seamlessly.

And after dinner, Twilight Entertainment kept the dance floor fired up! The energy and happiness was on high all night.

I say it all the time, but it’s always true - we really do work with the most amazing people. Thank you Alex and Kyra for the opportunity to capture this one day in your story together. Congratulations and cheers to you!

Ventosa Vineyards Wedding: Jesse and Kristen

From the start, working with Jesse and Kristen has been amazing. They’re the kind of couple that exudes genuine happiness together. It was refreshing to witness and capture their Finger Lakes wedding at Ventosa Vineyards.

Because of all of our work together in advance, everything had been perfectly planned. We felt relaxed and at ease all day which created a great atmosphere for their celebration. Their first look was just one of the highlights of the day for me. Jesse’s reaction to seeing Kristen for the first time was priceless.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking now, but congratulations Kristen and Jesse. Thank you for showing us your real selves and for allowing us to give these moments back to you in our photographs.

Rochester NY Engagement Photography: Carol and Jeff, Turning Point Park

Carol and Jeff love to be outdoors, biking, hiking and being together at Ontario Beach Park at sunset. So it seemed like a no brainer to schedule their Rochester engagement session at the beach. But when we got there, we realized quickly that we would not be alone. Us, and the rest of Rochester had flocked to the beach for one of their most popular Concerts by the Shore on this particular summer night.

It was chaos, and we knew right away that this was not the idyllic sunset-y story we wanted to tell. Rather than fight the throngs of beach goers to make their engagement session happen on the beach we all decided to change the story and head down the road to Turning Point Park.

I am so glad that Carol and Jeff are expert level pivoters, and willing to go with the flow, because what we ended up capturing was pure magic at golden hour in Rochester. See what I mean?

FAQ: Our Wedding Photography Style, Rochester NY

What's our Style? It's very a common question. It's a question that every wedding website and bridal magazine in Rochester tells couples to ask.  A common answer from a wedding photographer might simply be: "photojournalistic” or “candid.” I mean, those are the buzzwords couples want to hear, right?

They’re great answers. However, we feel that there's a bit more to a photography style, and a wedding day than strictly photojournalism. Which is where we come in, because we believe that our style is composed of two distinct roles as a photographer. One where both of us are fully able to fill both roles.

Our wedding photography is a beautiful blend of the romance you want to see in each other, and the documentary style of photography that tells the real story as it's happening. All the while, our focus is on the very real relationships that matter to you.

As you look through our wedding portfolio page, you'll see what we mean.

You'll also notice that our images are clean and timeless. Do we offer black and white? Yes, because it's a classic look. That said, we purposely choose NOT to use faded filters and effects on our images. Why? Because we don't follow fads. Because when you look back at your wedding album in 25 years, you don't want to say "Oh look, the Instagram Era." Your album will always look timeless and real.

Because a wedding is more than just one style of photography. Between the two of us, we each have an eye and a love for both!

Two viewpoints, to tell one timeless story - yours.

Daniel and Laura: Rochester NY Wedding Ceremony

When I arrived to The Baptist Temple in Rochester, NY for Daniel and Laura’s wedding, I didn’t know them one bit. They’d called just days before in need of someone to document their wedding ceremony. I quickly learned that they’re the sweetest, kindest couple with a warm loving family.

They’re also a very musically inclined family. As the ceremony began, members of the family played piano and string instruments, and sang with precision and beauty. As it echoed through the church, I found myself wishing I could record the beautiful music within my still photographs.

I left as they headed off to a brunch reception. It was a short and sweet event, but even the shortest weddings are always filled with beautiful relationships, love and happiness worth capturing. Congratulations Daniel and Laura!

Wedding Cakes and Sweets: Rochester NY Wedding Photography

Let them eat cake!

Or cookies, fruit covered tarts, donuts, pie, or s'mores. When it comes to wedding cakes in Rochester NY - there are no rules when it comes to personalizing your wedding day sweets with your sweet.

It's oh, soooo delicious. Personally, I think doing cake / dessert tastings is one of the best parts of wedding planning. Taste ALL the cake!

Obviously we have a sweet tooth or we wouldn't have written a whole blog post devoted to wedding cake ideas. So if you're in planning mode, and need some wedding inspiration - check out some of the fun options we've photographed in the last year.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think it's time for dessert.

Product Spotlight: Engagement Guest Book

Engagement sessions (in any season) are my favorite type of session. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that fact before. I love their peacefulness or playfulness and always their love - without the timeline of a wedding day.

We've photographed engagements anywhere from Letchworth State Park to downtown Rochester NY, and even in local coffee shops like Starry Nites Cafe or Joe Bean on University Avenue. Each one is unique and personalized to our couple.

But the one question we always get asked is - what should we do with these images? Answer: let's make a book!

But this isn't just any old Shutterfly book. Yes, it's a story of you, and who you are as a couple - but you can do more with it. One of our most popular ideas, is to incorporate the book at your wedding as a guest book.

These days, thanks to Pinterest, there are thousands of ways to display a guest book concept. Crafty people love coming up with new, never seen before ways to mark the occasion. But we love this book because it allows your guests to leave you notes, and answers to questions about love and marriage. Bonus point - there's no glue gun or mason jars involved, because we do all of the hard work for you.

It's an interactive guest book for your wedding. After the wedding, it's a cherished heirloom that you can safely keep alongside your wedding album. (And you don't have to find wall space to fit it into your home decor!)

It shows not only who you are as a couple, but also how much you're loved by those who joined in your wedding day. So - what would you like to do with your engagement session photographs?

Vendor Spotlight: Shell's Sweets

Over the years we've met some pretty incredible people. Today we're here to share a little about a creative mind we've had the pleasure of getting to know - Michelle Crawford. She's a business owner, cake artist and fantastic lady!

Michelle in her Kitchen

Michelle in her Kitchen

We met up with her at her kitchen for a chat and some pictures, and here's what we found out!

Quick Bio About Me: Many people ask me how I got started in cakes. It definitely wasn't something I saw myself doing as a full time business but it seemed to unfold that way. As a kid I always loved to bake and create things. I learned the basics from a family friend and began making cakes for family and friends. There was a time where I was unable to create much due to school and work. However, once my nieces and nephews were born I started back up. This is what really fueled my love for cake and now my cake business.

What does it mean to be a cake artist?
A cake artist is someone who takes the unexpected (flour, butter, sugar, eggs, etc) and with a vision creates a work of edible art.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Haha - it might be easier if you asked where didn't my inspiration come from. I am constantly seeing things and thinking "That would look great on a cake!" My biggest areas of inspiration are fashion, interior design. color and nature.

What's your favorite flavor?
Ooh that's a tough one! I would have to say it's a toss up between my Dark Chocolate cake and Peanut Butter Buttercream and something I call Snickerdoodle, Cinnamon cake, White Chocolate Ganache and Cinnamon Buttercream. Mmmmmmm....

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is the creating. I love seeing either what I have in mind or what my customer has in mind come to life. There's nothing like it! One of my favorite things make are sugar flowers, lace or anything cute!

Any hobbies outside the kitchen?
If I'm not in the kitchen you will probably find me crafting something, taking pictures (You have nothing to be concerned about haha), and spending time with friends and family.

How do people find you? (web, social media, etc)
You can find me at these locations:
Website  / Facebook  / Instagram  / Twitter

Thanks Michelle! We can't wait to work with you again soon!

Michelle's mom, pictured above, is often around to help, but doesn't do any of the baking. She helps wash dishes, fetches things and generally just enjoys watching Michelle work. It was a pleasure getting to know both women! And who doesn't need another photo with their mom? Such a pleasure!

Ashley and Chris: Elopements in Rochester NY

Their smiles were the best when they were looking at each other. It's such a wonderful feeling being a photographer for such beautiful little weddings here in Rochester.

Chris and Ashley met on trivia night. They're happy together watching Game of Thrones and having Chipotle - basically, being together. They love to try new things, but they don't need that in their lives constantly to be happy together. They accept each other, and are comfortable together.

Ashley was excited to see the snow falling lightly outside the window of the B&B where they married. I even snuck them outside for the fastest five minute portrait session ever. The snow was pretty, but the temperatures were frigid. But they held each other close, and we came away with beautiful images.

Congratulations Ashley and Chris - I wish you many happy years of Chipotle, trivia nights, and karaoke nights together!

Brian & Sarah: Shadow Lake Wedding Photographers

Sarah and Brian grew up here, met through mutual friends and decided to move to North Carolina together, where they now reside with their two adorable kids. Having been together for 6 years now, they were more than ready to finally be married.

Their sunny, late spring wedding day was held completely at Shadow Lake in Penfield NY. On this June day it was in full bloom wherever we looked. Shadow Lake is a picturesque location to be sure.

We loved how their whole family let their happiness and emotions flow from the ceremony, through dinner and right onto the dance floor. This great party definitely had some serious dance moves worth capturing!

Congratulations Sarah and Brian - on a great wedding day, amazing family and here's to your beautiful life together wherever it takes you.

The Artisan Album: Rochester NY Wedding Photography

We have been working on this album, for a very. very. long time. It's our newest sample to an already awesome lineup of wedding albums.

So why did this one take us so long? Well, it's completely customized and there were soooooooo many options to choose from. And if you desire a top of the line album, you'll have tons of choices too. This particular Artisan Craftsman option features Bill and Stacy's Rock Ford Plantation wedding.

One of our favorite things about this new album, is that it's created to be long lasting, yet environmentally friendly. The giclee books are engineered with a green footprint in mind, which as you know, means the world to us (see what I did there?).

These albums are designed to serve our couples who want to publish an iconic, one of a kind, earth friendly wedding album. I'd show you all of the options, but it's really up to you to decide what style you love.

We can't wait to see these albums in our clients homes. We love them, and hope you will too.
