I had the privilege of celebrating my first wedding of 2015 as a guest. My beautiful cousin Mary, and her wonderful groom, Rich, tied the knot in Melbourne, Florida!
I have to say, it was a different experience than I am used to. I started the day watching my nephew play shortstop, rather than photographing the couple get ready. Then I helped my niece and nephew get cleaned up, I myself put on heels(!) and I first saw Mary as she walked down the aisle.
I took a seat on the end with the thought that I could get up and move if I wanted to, but after seeing the 2 photographers with their 3 cameras, and the videographer with his 4 cameras, I felt safe shooting from my seat. If I hadn’t brought my camera, I would have felt naked… but I was a good girl and didn’t get in the way of the hired pros.
Rather than photograph every bridesmaid, groomsman and guest, I just focused on my family. From my seat I had a great view of my aunt and her reaction, my sister-in-law: a bridesmaid, and a great view of Rich for the vows.
At the reception, instead of walking in and setting up lights, I signed the guestbook and found the bar. For fun, I took a few shots of the cake with my cell phone! I let the pros handle the introductions, but I took advantage of my seat near the dance floor for the formal dances. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two, as the joy was written all over their faces with every move.
Before kicking off my heels to dance the night away, I got this wonderful series with my husband and nephew. He can be a tough one to get a smile out of, but it was worth it!
After putting the camera down, I don’t remember much… except dancing with my amazing family and driving home in the rain. It was a short trip to Florida, but so worth it to be with the amazing Mary and Rich on their special day! Love you guys!
