Winter Family Mini Session Events: Rochester NY Photographers

In December, parents everywhere live behind their camera. They’re photographing every family party, every cute holiday cookie, every visit with Santa - literally everything.

How often do you think that parent gets in one of the holiday family pictures? Or rather, how often do you think that parent gets to truly ENJOY the moment? Think about it - are you that parent?

Here’s how we fix this problem: Our Candid Mini Session Events.

Boom. Done. Look at these moments that would have gone un-captured if mom or dad had been taking the pictures. This style of family photography is what every parent doesn’t realize they want.

Sure, we take your posed family portrait too, but these candid pictures are why these mini session events exist. These moments are the gold.

Check out pictures from our last candid mini session event of 2021 below - ice skating at Roc Holiday Village!

Candid Mini Sessions in Fairport NY

Apple Farm Family Pictures

My son reminded me this morning that technically, according to the calendar, it’s still Fall until December 21st. So this blog post about fall family sessions is absolutely, 100% NOT late.

It might be a bit more blustery than these apple picking candid mini sessions in September were though. Apple picking is basically THE fall family activity in Rochester NY, right? We plan an apple picking candid mini session event every year, and it’s always one of the first to sell out.

This year we met a few new families and chased a few new kids around the apple orchard at Schutts Apple Farm and also at The Apple Farm in Victor NY. The family pictures we capture at these events are always some of my favorites, every single year.

If you’re interested in learning more about our Candid Mini Session events, we’d love to chat with you!

It’s not often that we’re able to take a same day booking for family pictures, but the stars aligned for this family!

Patricia and her family are moving. You may recognize Lara from her senior portraits last summer.

Lara is headed off to California, her brother to Wisconsin, and their parents are moving south to follow a job opportunity. There was a very small window when they would be together for family pictures in Rochester NY, before splitting up to 3 different states.

Their house was already mostly packed when I arrived, but that didn’t matter. We were able to capture family pictures by the tree the siblings grew up playing in, the garden dad nurtured for years, and the home that saw them through so much.

Having just moved myself, I know all the feels that go along with it. Memories of the past, excitement for the future, and so much in between. Thanks for letting my document the last days of this chapter for your family!

Do you have any big changes coming in your life? We’d love to capture this slice of life for you. Reach out and start the conversation, don’t wait until the last minute!

Candid Family Portraits at Home

It’s such a treat when an Instagram relationship moves to IRL (in real life). That was the case with Joanna, founder of TotsinRoc. After many months of following each other, comments and liking, we finally scheduled a play date. Her boys loved showing my little man all of their cool toys.

It wasn’t long after that when we found ourselves back together, capturing some candid family portraits in their backyard. We captured memories of them together on the swings, near the stream, even mom and dad in the front yard. The whole gang had fun with their family pictures, and I’m fairly certain everyone slept well that night!

We’ve had such a great time getting to know Joanna and her family, and we can’t wait for more adventures together!

Give TotsinRoc a follow today! You can find their adventures @totsinroc on Instagram and at facebook.com/TotsinRoc

High School Senior Model Session

Molly's Inspired Senior Portraits in Fairport NY

Non-traditional senior pictures that were outside the normal box, this senior portrait session was really unique!

Molly brought a strawberry dress and her personal vibe to this Fairport senior session. As we worked together, it really felt more like we were creating art rather than senior portraits.

I think I’ll let her Senior pictures do the rest of the talking!

Congratulations Molly, and thanks for trusting Lori and Erin Photography with your vision!

Family Pictures in Honeoye: Rochester NY Family Photographers

One 5 year old, two dogs, their parents and tons of room to run. Which is exactly what was necessary to photograph this five year old at his yearly family portrait session. They’ve been one of our amazing member families involved in our candid mini session events for all five years of his life. (What is this membership?)

After all this time, we know that playing is the way to his adorable smile. He also knows what to expect from us, and very rarely hides his face from our cameras. It’s one of the reasons that taking advantage of the candid mini session events makes sense.

We let the silliness happen, and we photograph their family pictures as they really are. That’s the side of him that his family wants to remember when he’s grown, so we capture it while we can. Enjoy this glimpse into their family!

PS - If you feel so inclined to check out that big inn behind them in the last photo, that’s Greenwoods Bed & Breakfast, and they’re the newest owners. Check it out, I promise you’ll want to want to take a little getaway after you see it!

Harry Potter Themed Birth Announcement Photos

We are super behind on these blog posts, because by now these two have already had their maternity photos taken with us. But, we’re still going to share the news that these muggles are expecting! And SOON!

With their matching Hogwarts shirts and onesie, we got together for some socially distanced announcement photos. Taken right on their front step, the fall decor was a perfect compliment to the Harry Potter theme.

Life is a crazy journey, and some (highly anticipated) moments deserve their time in the spotlight. We simply CANNOT wait to meet your little one!

Winter Portraits in Rochester, NY: Rochester NY Family Photographers

So what do you do for your family pictures in Rochester when it’s winter in a pandemic? We recently wrote about this in a recent post: 5 Safe Outdoor Winter Family Portrait Ideas

You go outside and play in the snow! Using a telephoto lens allows us to get great images while easily keeping our distance. This awesome family decided to take us up on the idea, and we were so excited to work with them.

With a football and 2 dogs floating around, this session was extremely relaxed. Some sledding, some cuddling, some masks… it was a great excuse to get out of the house, even if it’s your own back yard.

Your turn! Whats your fun outdoor, pandemic family portrait idea?

How to Repurpose Branding Images Across Your Marketing

You’re a small business owner / entrepreneur. You have a great idea, and you want to get it into the minds of your audience.

So you write something for Facebook and hit post. Then you wait… but all you hear are crickets. What else can you do?

Here’s five ways to repurpose your idea while using your personal brand photographs across your marketing.

1) Blog

Whether you like it or not, blogging is a great tool in your marketing tool box. It can improve your position on Google while you share about what it’s like to work with you. The brand pictures you use in blogs should compliment you as a professional.

2) Share on Instagram / Facebook

Now, take that blog post and break it down into easy to follow social media posts. Link back to your website and use your photos to elevate your perceived value. Posts that include an attention grabbing photograph are always more likely to get noticed. Create several to share your content on social in different ways, because one post alone isn’t enough to get your message out. This is also why having an accessible variety of branding images matters.

3) Pin to Pinterest

Same information, but now create a graphic to go with your “3 Reasons You Need XYZ” blog post, and pin it! There are many ways to create valuable Pinterest content using your brand photographs.

4) E-mail Marketing

Do you have an email list you’re not utilizing? Never know what to write in your newsletter? Are your phone pictures cutting it? Level up your newsletter with your both content and photographs. These people chose to follow you in their inbox, so engage with them!

5) Printed Materials

Create a product catalog, or brochure that you can leave behind with current clients. Share a tip with them that keeps them coming back for more. Professional images will never not be useful on a printed brochure.

Getting your message out takes time and more than one marketing tool. The beauty of personal branding is that you can use this set of professional images anywhere across these platforms. Check out 8 Ways to Use Your Branding Images for some other ideas.

Because unless you have mass amounts of social media followers, there’s no button that magically brings people to your doorstep. Use the tools (and photographs) you have.

5 Ways to Make Your Holiday Card Stand Out

Ready to switch out your fall scented candles for your Christmas tree scent? If so, then I’m going to assume you’re planning your holiday cards too. This year, it feels like getting mail is a treat again - so why not do something to make your card stand out in the sea of 2020 holiday cards. Here’s a few ideas.

1) Make it Interactive:

If you’re going to send a holiday card, why not make it interesting? We have some fun designs to get you started. Or - what if you included some sort of activity for those with young kids? (Think coloring!) There are options out there - think outside the glittery holiday box!

2) Candid Portraits

Tired of seeing the same holiday props and smiles? Let the pictures on your holiday show off something real! Do something fun - snowball fights or ice skating, show off your moments, not your poses. If you need some ideas, check out our latest post: 5 Ways we can safely photograph your winter portrait session!

3) Make it Frame Worthy:

If you do it right, the beauty of the right size holiday card, is that Grandma can lovingly put it into a frame and keep you on display forever. We can help you out with that if you want!

4) Think Local:

Is there a local artist that you know of selling card designs? Show them your love this year, and encourage your friends and family by showing up for your local small businesses.

5) Send it in January:

You know when people need a pick me up? AFTER the holidays. After the tree comes down, and all that’s left is the wrapping paper bits you find throughout the house until February. Bonus factor: You don’t have to rush to get them completed. Some call it procrastination, I call it genius.

How You Can Help a Small Business in Rochester this Season

1) Buy Local:

Money in the community, stays in the community. It’s as simple as that. If you don’t feel comfortable going into their store or location, see if they have an online option, or give them a call to make a curbside purchase.

2) Give a gift certificate:

Have a favorite restaurant you love? Or photographer perhaps? (Yes, that was a shameless plug). Same ways to buy as #1 applies here too!

4) Get Take Out, and Tip:

I know restaurants are currently open, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of the woods. If it’s applicable and you’re able to do it, tip well. Service workers and small family run restaurants need your love.

3) Use your Voice:

Small businesses don’t just grow because of social media. Refer them, share your experiences, be their cheerleaders. And yes, you can do all of those things on social media too. Tag them in your posts, and let others know about them.

4) Engage:

It’s not enough for a business to have followers online, they need engagement too. Comment on their posts, like them, share them, and do it regularly if you’re able. Reach out to them and see how you can be helpful.

5) Leave a Review:

Have some love to share about a favorite business you worked with this year? Give them a google review. You have no idea how much this helps people find and trust a local small business.

Some of this is so simple and even free, so please give your favorite local businesses your love. They/we appreciate you so much and they need you more than ever before. If there’s any way we can help you in this season, please reach out. Let’s keep small business alive together!

Rochester NY Family Pictures: AJ's One “Plus” year portrait session

It was supposed to be AJ’s one year portrait session. But as many others, it ended up being a one “plus” year session due to the pandemic.

But honestly, just look at that smile - we can’t be mad about much of anything with this little one in the pictures. Roberts Wesleyan College was a great setting (not to mention empty of students) and the perfectly even light that day was on point.

As one of our Candid Portrait members, we’ve had the opportunity to watch him go from baby into toddler. His smile will only continue to grow, and we can’t wait to capture it as it does.
