Relax, and let us capture your natural character.
Here are some other useful tips:
We not only want to show the real you to the world, we want to celebrate it.
Clothing
- In general, try to avoid clothing with words, stripes and plaids. Solid colors tend to photograph much better.
- Coordinating tops and bottoms is nice (ie: white shirts, khaki pants), but it's not for everyone, and can look a little cheesy. An option we suggest is to choose colors from the same color family such as warm (red, brown, orange, yellow) or cool (blue, purple, pink, green).
- Most importantly, you should should feel comfortable in what you are wearing. Make sure that everyone's clothing flatters them. If children aren't comfortable in what they're wearing, it will show in the pictures. For older children and parents, pay attention to overly baggy or too tight clothing.
- Bring something casual and dressy, but also something fun and uniquely you!
- Make sure clothes are pressed (if they need it), as wrinkles are harder to retouch.
Hair and Makeup
- It's most important to feel like YOU.
- Makeup should only be slightly heavier than normal. Mascara should be clean and contain no clumps.
- Try to avoid makeup with sparkles in it.
- Use transclucent powder is great to control shine.
- Wear your hair natural and how you like it best. Don't get a brand new style of haircut right before your session.
- Consider getting a trim 1 week before your session, so your hair is tidy, but not square.
- Don't worry about minor blemishes, they are easily touched up in post production.
- Keep jewelry simple. We don't want jewelry to distract from the most important element of the photograph: you!
- Most glasses show glare. We have tips for this at your session, but if you're able to, ask your optometrist for a loaner pair of frames without lenses, or consider contacts.
Shaving Tips
- Think about about what time you need to shave for the ideal amount of stubble (or lack there of) you would like in your images.
- Leave enough time for your skin to return to normal after shaving.
Pets and Props
- If you have a furry family member to include, great!
- If your pet is food motivated, please have treats handy to reward them with.
- A pet carrier or extra person may be necessary to care for them when their time in the spotlight is over.
- We encourage you to bring items that reveal your personality and hobbies. For example, an instrument, sporting equipment, vehicle, collectible, or whatever it is you enjoy.
