Typically, when we’re scheduling an outdoor branding session, we’re hoping for a nice, clear day. But for musician, Haley Kait we actually hoped for a more of a moodier scene.

Haley is an up and coming musician / actor with an indie sound. She came to us for personal brand photography that would show off her vibe when it came to auditioning for theatre roles. She also wanted them for an album cover, and images that would be used to promote her live shows.

Rather than bright and polished, Haley wanted branding pictures that felt more mysterious, darker, and even a little bit haunting.

Turning Mood Into Images with Personal Brand Photography for Musicians

At her consultation, we talked with Haley about how she wanted her brand as a musician to feel. And those words - mysterious, darker, haunting became the goal that we based our decisions on. Everything from the lighting to the location was chosen by keeping that feeling in mind. That’s what makes brand photography for artists so interesting. We photographed Haley’s branding session in Fairport, NY, using its parking garage and canal at night. The industrial feel of the garage, and the dark, starry skies all worked together to mirror Haley’s indie acoustic style.

Haley’s guitar was a must-have prop. It’s more than an instrument; it’s part of how she connects with her audience. She also brought a black umbrella, which added more of that dark mood to the images.
