Branding Photography for Engineers: Rochester NY Photographers

Kelly is a engineering consultant in Rochester NY, whose specialty is helping businesses eliminate injury and waste from static electricity.

He reached out to us in need of some personal brand photography for an upcoming magazine article he was being featured in. It was a fun and different opportunity for us to photograph!

As as a branding photographer, I know absolutely nothing about electrostatic engineering. However, I do know he made the job look great in his branding portraits!

Branding Pictures for Interior Designers: Fairport NY Personal Brand Photographers

Trudi said something to the effect of “I have a room under construction and I’d like to take pictures in it for my branding portraits.”

We replied “Sounds awesome, let’s do it!”

I mean, how else do you show the world what you’re capable of as an residential interior designer, except to show yourself amidst your own construction and design work?

She’s updating her website, designing and constructing her own office / show room, and also entering into The One Room Challenge. It is a biannual event every spring and fall. Everyone with a blog, Instagram account, or TikTok can participate by registering for the event with the room or space they’re transforming.

She’s also a hands on business woman, working on designs for clients at the same time. So it’s safe to say she’s got her hands pretty full.

We’re excited to see how she uses her branding pictures along the way!

Personal Branding Portraits in Fairport NY: Rochester NY Photographers

A lot of times, when people think of branding portraits, they think of cute coffee shops and sipping coffee at a computer.

But branding photography for a window treatment company doesn’t fit that mold. Peggy came to us with an amazingly detailed list of photographs for branding her business.

They included everything from sewing machines to ladders. Each member of her team was photographed doing what they do best, and then we made some fun group portraits as well.

We had so much fun with them, and can’t wait to see their pictures all over their Instagram account in the near future.

Check out a few below, and meet Peggy and her team on the Instagram account: @peggymorgans

Fausts USA Karate: Fairport NY Personal Brand Photographers

Full disclosure, we’ve been members at Fausts USA Karate since 2019. Having taken classes myself and watched my child grow through the ranks has been pretty rewarding.

However, I’m pretty sure that the the last headshots they had taken were in another decade, so they were due for an update. They’ve just updated their website, and were looking to update their branding photographs rather than use stock photography, like other dojos might do.

By mixing updated portraits with candid class photographs on the pages of their website, they help potential students see themselves in the class in their minds. Branding photography takes a boring stock photograph and makes it real to a viewer. This will help Fausts, an already successful karate dojo, continue to grow and adapt in an ever changing world.

Check out some of their update photographs below, and their new website at: Fausts USA Karate

Rochester Family Orthodontics

When was the last time you enjoyed going to the dentist? For me - it was when we went to visit Dr. Maureen Wood, and her team at Rochester Family Orthodontics. However, we weren’t there for dental work.

We spent time photographing some brand photography for their new website. Because dentists need branding pictures too!

These ladies are great people to work with, and we look forward to seeing these photograph in action soon!

Personal Branding in Rochester NY: Fairport NY Photographers

We started in 2013 with portraits with her sisters. And then we photographed her wedding in 2015, her sister’s wedding in 2016. She began her career and her family out of state, but moved back recently, quickly booking an updated family portrait, and also a personal branding session for herself.

And every time we see her, she’s like a light that draws us in. It’s easy to see why this doctor’s brand as a expert in menopause and women’s health is taking off.

We aren’t sure how she does it. Between her Women’s Health podcast, her leadership position with Midi Health and her family, she also found time to write a book, which hits shelves in June.

Check out how some of her photographs have been used:

Wait until the last photo! We know her!

Oh and did we mention that she got to meet and be on a panel with OPRAH recently?! WHHHHATTTT? (I probably should have led with that, huh?)

Honestly, we’re pretty honored to say we know and love this amazing woman. Thank you Dr. Heather Hirsch, for giving us the opportunity to showcase your brand, your way.

Look great in pictures without retouching: Fairport NY Photographers

PS: It's not what you think.

If you ask us about retouching, you may see us cringe. It’s not because we don’t know how, or that we’re not good at it. In fact, some have called us Photoshop wizards.

No, it’s not that. Rather, we prefer to see everyone the way they are, and celebrate that real, honest beauty.

What’s more beautiful than confidence?

So you want to look good in your photos. Who doesn't?
Here are our top tips to look good.

  1. Confidence. Radical self love. Acceptance. Whatever you want to call it: if you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside. So take care of yourself! If that means getting your nails done, do it. If it means going for a run, do it. If it means listening to your favorite music on the way to your session, DO IT! Find what makes you feel really you, and bring that beautiful you to your session.

  2. Choose an outfit that makes you feel good. This doesn't mean you have to wear what's trending, high heels, or all black, it just means wear something that makes you smile. Flaunt the parts of you that you love and don’t stress the parts that you don't.

  3. Trust your photographer. (that's us!) Through lens choices, angles and positioning, we emphasize your best features, naturally reducing the rest.

Remember: The eyes say it all. If you are truly present, happy, and connected, no one is looking anywhere else.

Erin in two seated poses

In both of these photos, my eyes go straight to Erin’s face. With a twist of her body, thoughtfully placed hands, good light and a fun prop, we have a 3/4 length portrait with the emphasis on her smile.

Why do we hate retouching so much?

  1. It assumes we think you need it. We think all people are beautiful, and our differences make us special.

  2. It assumes we know what you want to look like. Appearance is a very personal thing. Our preferences may be the opposite of yours. If you want something retouched, we need you to be specific about what that is for you.

  3. Where do you draw the line? How many pounds or years do you want to take off? 1, 5, 20? It is very subjective, and if you have found our work, I assume you like the natural feel of our images.

This is example of going to far (in my opinion). On the left, I softened the bags under my eyes (hey, I have a toddler.) On the right, I smoothed away all evidence of skin texture to create an unrealistic glow. I could have even gone farther and added makeup, but then no one would recognize me.

So what do we do?

We'll remove acne (we assume no one wants to remember that) and subtly brighten teeth. Other than that, not much unless you ask for it.

Braces are optional, but lately, more folks have opted to keep them in their pictures. If you’ve got concerns about shape, we discuss that in advance and choose clothes and poses that flatter. As for wrinkles, beauty marks and hair, we don’t touch them unless you ask.

So tell us... do you love yourself just the way you are, or do you want to look 20 years younger?

Because we think you are beautiful.

Love, Lori & Erin

Branding Session for Art Therapist in Rochester NY

Therapy that doesn’t feel or look like therapy.

Sounds pretty good to me right now. Sarah wants those who come to her website to know that therapy doesn’t always happen in a sterile office environment. That’s exactly what it felt like walking into Spotted Rabbit Studio.

Brand photography isn’t always about a clean, tidy office space with white everything and perfectly manicured to do lists. This space felt down to earth, real, surrounded by art and supplies. It felt like creatives work there, and they do - but it’s in a way that helps others grow and feel more confident.

And all of that needed to be translated to images for their new website, so that’s what we did.

How can we help you show up for your business?
