Some family portrait sessions come with a very simple goal - everyone looks happy. Everyone feels like themselves. Everyone is actually enjoying being there.
This family session at Highland Park started with exactly that intention. It had been years since this family last updated their portraits. Back then, the kids were very little. Now they are in a whole new season with a 10 year old daughter and a 7 year old son, each with their own strong and very different personalities.
It Had Been a While Since Their Last Family Photos
Life gets busy and family pictures often fall to the bottom of the to do list. This family knew they were overdue. What they wanted was not anything fancy or stiff. They just wanted new family pictures that felt like who they are right now.
When asked what they would want if this session only produced one photo, mom said it perfectly: “The four of us all smiling and looking good. I just want us all looking happy in a photo.”
That simple wish guided the entire portrait session at Lamberton Conservatory.
Letting Each Child Be Themselves
The oldest, is bubbly, confident, and loves the spotlight. She brought big smiles, and a natural ease in front of the camera. She did not need much direction at all. Giving her space to shine made the photos feel effortless and fun.
The family’s younger sibling is quieter and more reserved. He is thoughtful, kind, and endlessly curious. He also loves animals, which made the conservatory a great fit for him. Wandering among the plants, birds and turtles and taking in his surroundings helped him relax, and let his personality come through.
Why the Lamberton Conservatory Is Great for Family Pictures
The Lamberton Conservatory offers the best of both worlds. It feels lush and alive, even in colder months, and it gives kids something to explore without overwhelming them with the camera. The light is beautiful, and the setting is calm, which helps families settle in quickly and easily.
For parents, it means less worrying about weather and more space to just be with their kids. For kids, it feels more like an experience than family pictures.
A Reminder for Families Waiting for the Right Time
You do not need a milestone or a major life event to update your family photos. Sometimes the reason is simply that time has passed and your family looks and feels different now.
This portrait session was about capturing a family exactly as they are today. Happy, connected, and growing into new versions of themselves. Years from now, these portraits at Highland Park will say so much more than just what they looked like. They will show how this season felt.
If you have been thinking about updating your family photos and keep putting it off, consider this your nudge. Now is already worth remembering.
